This is my second ACL surgery (revision reconstruction), so I was desperate for a high-quality doctor and I wanted to find a top UK doctor who does this surgery repeatedly and frequently. My prior surgery was at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA which on paper is one of the top American hospitals, but Sam Rajaratnam's quality felt far superior to my prior surgery in the USA. The quality of surgery and recovery by Sam and his team were AMAZING. At every stage, I have been LIGHTYEARS ahead of my prior ACL reconstruction... walking far faster, cycling, jumping, and with far less pain and swelling throughout. This is not to say that ACL is ever an "easy" recovery... ACL is still a major surgery, but, having gone through this previously, I knew how steep a climb it can be back to a full recovery. I am blown away by the quality of service and pace of my recovery, and cannot speak anything but positive words about Sam. Sam Rajaratnam has a bit of a waiting list but he's well worth waiting for! One minor tip is that I think it's worth it for all patients to rent their own compression/ice machine... Sam's team recommends one, but I would highly suggest every patient pay for this as it helps a lot too. Great job Sam and team!

He performed two knee replacements a year apart. The first healed with full mobility. The second one was done 5 weeks ago and my progress has been fast, if not miraculous ! My trust in the outcome of my operations was strong. The Horder Centre had already been highly and repeatedly recommended. Thank you, Mr Rajaratnam.

As a registered nurse, I was well informed of the surgical process for a total knee replacement, but as a patient, I experienced some understandable anxiety about the procedure and how I would cope with the surgery and recovery for a total knee replacement. I had undergone a repair of the meniscus in 2015, which had been very successful, so I had total faith in Mr. Rajaratnam. I have worked with many surgeons during my career and feel Mr. Rajaratnam is exceptional. From the initial consultation he exhibits total professionalism, puts you at ease, spends time carefully explaining the procedure, answers any questions and always treats you as an individual and plans your care accordingly. His work displays his constant intent to always strive to improve his surgery and therefore improve patient outcomes. By being well informed, I felt I was empowered and was able to plan my recovery regime. This was assisted immensely by the staff at the Holder Clinic, the well organised and detailed literature provided, the pre-assessment team, The anaesthetist, the ward staff, x-ray department and physiotherapists. Following the surgery my pain was well controlled and I only experienced some aching and soreness and I was up walking around the hospital with crutches the next day. With a regime of regular icing, exercise, physio and the use of an exercise bike, by week five post op, I am back ballroom dancing and walking 2-3 miles, with no discomfort. I am so very grateful to have been under the care of Mr. Ragaratnam, who I consider brilliant.

Mr Rajaratnam is an absolutely wonderful surgeon and his ability to put you at ease and listen to each individual patient's problems is second to none. I originally had a tear in my meniscus repaired by him in 2020 and was told to come and find him when it got unbearable, which I did! I am now 7 weeks post surgery for a total knee placement ( 22/03/22 ) and I can honestly say it has changed everything for me. I am 52 years old and have literally got my life back both at work and soon my ability to ride my beautiful horse again. The staff at the Horder Center were all superb, from the tea ladies up and it was like being pampered in a 5 * Hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and Mr Rajaratnam and his team were just exceptional. I will never be able to thank him enough for totally taking away the constant pain that I suffered 24/7. Please if you are suffering seek out this super surgeon and his team. You will not regret it!!

I am 2 weeks on from surgery performed by Mr Rajaratnam at The Horder Centre, Crowborough. I have to say that the whole experience has hugely exceeded my expectations. Whilst my surgery was relatively simple (knee medial meniscal tear & bakers cyst), it is still surgery and requires a knowledgeable and professional surgeon plus team to deliver the experience and the successful result. That has certainly been achieved in my case. In addition he is an extremely affable person who listens, then discusses before offering clear and decisive advice. I’m a very keen golfer (as is Mr Sam) and he also had an understanding of my needs and goals for the recovery period. I would highly recommend Mr Sam Rajaratnam, his anaesthetist Mr Barry Phillips and the whole team at The Horder Centre. They have been excellent in every way as are the facilities, overall care and ambience at the hospital.
